Corey Briggs, CIH, CET, FAIHA from Colden Corporation is a part-time associate adjunct professor in the College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS) Geosciences Department https://web.uri.edu/cels/ and has been presenting the Spring semester courses GEO 587- Environmental Hazards, Risks, Response, and Safety (aka HAZWOPER) and GEO 589 (the annual refresher for GEEO 587) for the past six years. Both courses are very hands-on, practical and equipment-dependent and prepare Geo and other URI students for a career in the environmental sciences.
From his various connections in the national environmental, health and safety community, Corey recently established a new relationship with mPower Electronics, Inc., of Santa Clara, California who were interested in supporting these important CELS classes. mPower Electronics Inc. is a global manufacturer of gas detectors and alarm systems that is dedicated to keeping workers safe by protecting them from potentially hazardous situations. They provide valuable products like single gas and multi-gas detectors and PID sensors for the personal protection of men and women working in industries like emergency services, oil and gas, refineries, and environmental services. mPower graciously donated a state-of-the-art photoionization meter to URI.
URI and CELS expresses its sincere thanks to 3M, mPower Electronics and GVS Group for supporting our efforts to prepare students for the real world!
